PC MLA - Colin LaVie - District 1- Souris-ElmiraColin LaVie has lived and worked in the community of District 1 (Souris – Elmira) all of his life, currently in the Town of Souris with his wife Shelley. He is a self-employed Fisherman, but has worked many jobs and worn many hats throughout his career.

He grew up in a family of six, and in a family of his own raised two children; his son Shawn and daughter Natasha.

For the past two years, Colin has been an active volunteer as Manager & Ice Maker at the Eastern Kings Sportsplex. At the beginning of these two years, there was NO money in the Sportsplex bank account, and notices piled up for disconnection of electricity, overdue accounts and loan paymentsColin worked with the Board and the Community to revive the arena. When he was told that Curling would not work in a Hockey rink, he took the initiative to make it happen – along with a great group of volunteers – bringing another source of income to the rink.

He has been a member of the Souris Fire Department for 30 years now, and Chief for the past 10, where he recently oversaw the purchase a new fire truck as well as renovations to the hall inside and out to make it more energy efficient. From these many years of community service Colin feels he knows what it takes to keep a rural community going. He understands the various issues and concerns that are important to his community.

He is prepared to work co-operatively with the people and businesses of Eastern Kings “District 1″ to make it a place that all residents can be proud to call home.
