OPPOSITION CAUCUS QUESTIONS LOFTY PRICE TAG ON 2014 CELEBRATIONS


The Opposition Caucus raised issue with the Ghiz Government's proposed $75 million plan for the 2014 Celebrations in today's sitting of the Legislature.

While the Opposition feels it is important to celebrate our Canadian and Island heritage, they feel it is most important to do so in a cost efficient manner. They believe $75 million for a party is far too much to pay given the current economic times.

Ghiz hires Friends while firing more Islanders


The Opposition Caucus was critical of Premier Ghiz's practices of giving $60,000 to TIPIA to hire the defeated MLA, Cynthia (Dunsford) King, while people working in Island Liquor stores are being told today that they are fired.

Opposition House Leader, Steven Myers pointed to the double standard that the Ghiz Government likes to practice. He questioned how the Premier can justify hiring Ms. King during to current economic times.

Government's Hidden Agenda for Education Questioned


The Opposition caucus questioned the Government's true motives regarding school infrastructure projects in PEI.

MLA for Souris - Elmira, Colin LaVie raised issue with the fact that the Government led Souris students and parents to believe for three years that they would have a new K-12 school, only to back them into the corner of accepting renovations instead.

He questioned how Government decided that $20 million was the proper amount to build the school to begin with. "Either this Government knew all along that they couldn't afford the $20 million renovations or they don't understand how much a dollar is worth."
